I was in the car minding my own business, listening to my music as always when this girl singing a pop beat/rap with a new song came on, and it hooked me right away. It was not only the rhythm of the song it was the message that she was delivering.
The more I listened to it the more I loved it. Alessia Cara and her song HERE should be an anthem for young people, it conveys exactly what I try to tell my kids every day, be yourself and please don’t follow the crowd. Be nice to people and be nice to each other (among many, many other things).
….But honestly I’d rather be
Somewhere with my people
We can kick it and just listen to
Some music with a message, like we usually do
And we’ll discuss our big dreams
How we plan to take over the planet
So pardon my manners
I hope you’ll understand that I’ll be here
Not there in the kitchen
With the girl who’s always gossiping about her friends
So tell them I’ll be here
Right next to the boy who’s throwin’ up
Cause he can’t take what’s in his cup no more
Oh God why am I here?
Can you imagine how many good things can come if instead of gossiping with friends we dedicate ourselves to talk about our dreams and plans for the future? Thank you Alessia Cara, for singing about this to my kids in better ways than how I try to explain to everyday.
